How to cope with high inflation

Browsing the local grocery store, filling up the car or searching for a simple household item online can be downright scary these days. We all know that prices are rising fast. Inflation is at its highest level for 40 years and there is no sign of it slowing down just yet,

I firmly believe that our economy will adjust over time but here are some tips to help you weather the storm.

Sort Out A Budget

First of all you need to sort out a budget. You need to know exactly what you are working with? I am going to sit down and work out my budget as soon as possible. It’s a really easy thing to do, you just need to make two lists. The first is a list of your income, and the second is a list of all the places you need to spend money. Take the total of the second away from the first, and you’ve got your leftovers. You will need to add 10% extra to your expenses to allow for inflation. Unfortunately you have to use the real figures for your income.

When budgeting, it’s always better to overestimate than underestimate. If you’re not 100% sure, round up a little. It’s always better to have a little more money than you thought than not enough to cover it.

Try to become more eco-friendly

You may be able to save money and contribute to the health of the planet by embracing a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Both Petrol prices and energy bills are rising frighteningly fast at present. You can help the planet by leaving the car at home as much as possible. Simple tricks from the past like shutting internal doors, using draft excluders and lining curtains will help cut down energy bills.

Avoid Debt As Much As You Can

Debt is something that you want to avoid at all costs. It’s a vicious cycle, and once you’re in it, it can be extremely difficult to get out of it. If you’re in debt already, then set up payment plans with companies that you owe money to and then stick to them. In the meantime, don’t borrow any more money from anywhere else as this is only going to make things worse. Once you’re out, don’t get sucked back in. You can find out more about getting out of debt on a site like https://www.experian.com /if you are interested. It is a good idea to delay major purchases if you can especially if the price has recently risen very quickly. If you can wait it out you may find prices will come down again.

Hire A Professional To Help

If you know you are going to struggle, you might want to consider hiring a professional to help. You can look at some of the options on a site like financialadvisers.co.uk, A professional can be a really big help to those who are struggling, providing you with the advice and expertise that you need to keep you on the right path. You can also get free advice from organisations such as the citizens advice bureau or step change.

I think the next few years will be stormy but I believe that we will be able to rebuild our finances over time. If you can find low-cost ways to enjoy yourself and protect your physical and mental health, you will survive.
