Grief is one of the hardest experiences you’ll ever have to go through in your life. Losing a loved one, whether it be a friend or family member, is something that can hit you by surprise and take a long time to get over. It’s important to keep in mind that grief is a journey that can take months and years to feel better and something you never quite get over. In this post I take a look at some top tips to help you navigate these difficult times and look at what you can do to feel a bit better. Keep on reading to get inspiration.

Take Care Of Yourself

Once the memorial has been planned with a company such as memorials.com and the person has either been buried or cremated it can leave you at a loss. Without something to focus on, you can find yourself feeling sad and depressed and wondering what to do. To help you navigate this stage in your grieving journey, be sure to take care of yourself as well as you can. Ensure you do things you enjoy such as reading a book, going for a walk or taking a hot bath. You should also focus on your general wellbeing by making sure you shower, eat healthily and take some exercise. This can help you overall feel much better.

Give yourself time

As well as the above, when it comes to navigating grief you need to recognize it takes time. Don’t expect to suddenly feel fine and okay. It can take a while to go through the different stages of grief and you’ll likely experience things such as anger, resentment, detachment and more. You need to let yourself feel these things, not expecting to just be fine after a few days, weeks or even months. Be kind to yourself and know that it isn’t a quick process but that’s absolutely fine.

Speak to someone

If you keep your feelings in it can make you feel isolated and a lot worse about the situation. Instead, be sure to speak to people such as close friends and family members who can help you get through it. If you find this isn’t working and you are still feeling down or upset or just can’t manage your feelings, speak to a counsellor or therapist who can help you on a more professional level.

In my previous post Ways to heal after the death of a loved one I shared a few tips for helping to navigate the tricky world of grief that can help you get through it and come out the other side. When you are struggling, it can really feel as though you can’t imagine being happy again, but this isn’t the case. Grieving takes time and can’t be rushed. There is no schedule which will tell you when you should stop grieving. But one day, you will be much more like your old self and remember the good times and find that while you never get over the loss, you have methods to manage it.

What are some top tips you have for navigating grief? Let me know in the comments below I would love to hear from you.
